A Crafty Gathering

This week saw the start of a regular ‘crafty gathering’ of those interested in hand crafts.  Held in a local wine bar we couldn’t have picked a worse night having had snow all day – but a fair few hardy souls (or possibly Mums that wanted to escape the bath and bed routine for a night!) did turn out and a lovely evening was had by all.

Armed with various odd bits of yarn from magazine giveaways and a collection of old needles I went along to give some basic knitting lessons.  Very quickly I had 3 pupils, none of whom had ever knitted before and all of whom I am very proud.  By the end of the evening they had all managed to cast on some stitches, mastered the knit stitch and were getting to grips with purl – we have decided to save casting off for another time.  They all went away happy with their little swatches of garter and stocking stitch to show for their evening.  I gave away the yarn and needles as well so they can practice if they wish – I think they will return for more lessons!

Crafty Gathering is held at Frollies Wine Bar in Whitchurch, Shropshire.  Knitters, crocheters, embroiderers, stitchers of any kind -  any hand craft really is very welcome to join us for the evening – its a great way of meeting new friends, swapping tips and learning/sharing new techniques or skills.  I am happy to give basic knitting lessons to those interested and I am trying to get a crochet tutor to come along too.  There is no fee or registration required and is hosted with very kind permission of Frollies.  Contact customer.services@athenbys.com for details of future dates.  If you are thinking of setting up your own ‘crafty gathering’ I am happy to share my experiences, just get in touch! Joanne
